某所で英語の歌“Ode to Joy”を教わった。メロディーはベートーベンの第９交響曲の合唱“An die Freude”のサビの部分そのものであった。映画の主題歌のように紹介されていた。
歌詞はシラーの≪Freude, schöner Götterfunken ～≫の英訳≪Joy, beautiful spark of the gods, Daughter from Elysium,～≫ではなく、内容的にキリスト教の讃美歌そのものであった。
検索した結果、まさに讃美歌であって、“TheHymn of Joy”あるいは歌い出しの文句から“Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee”と呼ばれることが判った。アメリカの作家ヘンリー・ファン・ダイクが１９０７年にベートーベンの曲に歌詞付けしたとのこと（出版は1911年VanDyke's Book of Poems, Third Edition）。

夏ごろに混声四部で発表するようだが、ソプラノの最高音がラ♭なので大丈夫かなと心配する声があり、その部分をカットする可能性がある。
